Introducing New Artistic Director David Dacks
The Board of Directors is very pleased to announce that David Dacks has accepted the Music Gallery’s offer of employment as Artistic Director. David takes over for Jonathan Bunce, who leaves the organization after over seven years. David will formally assume his duties on January 2, 2012. “As a journalist, broadcaster, and curator, David has been a fervent proponent of contemporary music, and he has a keen eye for what’s emerging locally, nationally and internationally,” said Samir Khan, Chair of the Board. “He continues the strong tradition of forward-thinking artistic direction that we enjoyed under Jonathan Bunce. We cannot wait for audiences to see what he will program in the coming seasons.” “I am thrilled to be hired as the Artistic Director for the Music Gallery,” said David. “I look forward to developing exciting new programming for and expanding the horizons of Toronto’s Centre for Creative Music”. David Dacks has over 25 years of experience as a music programmer, journalist and broadcaster. Currently an assistant editor at Exclaim, Canada’s pre-eminent music magazine, his work has also been featured inMusicworks, Spinner.ca (AOL Canada), The Grid, Paste, and on CBC Radio. He has hosted “The Abstract Index”—a longstanding and popular community forum for new ideas in music—for the past 10 years on CIUT FM. For the past 2 years, he has been the Music Gallery’s Guest Curator for the New World Series. In recognition of his accomplishments in the fields of contemporary and new music, David Dacks served on this year’s Grand Jury for the Polaris Music Prize.

The Music Gallery is very proud to share the line-up for the sixth annual X AVANT New Music Festival — this year offering up the theme "Tales of Two Cities" — coming to you October 15 through 23rd.
