Canadian premiere of rare musical instruments

Tomorrow night (Saturday, May 3) the Music Gallery presents the Canadian premiere of the MSU Harry Partch Ensemble, a student ensemble from Montclair State University in New Jersey, led by composer, conductor, teacher, multi-instrumentalist and inventor Dean Drummond, who is also co-director of the Harry Partch Instrumentarium. Drummond maintains the collections of original instruments built by America's legendary "hobo composer" Partch, and this is the first time that many of these instruments have ever been in Canada! Needless to say, this is a unique and rare opportunity to hear works by Partch performed in the context in which they were intended: on the very instruments that Partch built in order to realize his groundbreaking micro-tonal tuning systems. more>
