May 28: Come celebrate the Music Gallery's "vinyl" anniversary!
Posted on 4.21.09-------------------------------------------------------
In May 2009, the Music Gallery turns 33.33 years old — a significant figure, as 33.33 RPM is the speed of a long-playing record. We celebrate the Music Gallery’s recorded history with a special fundraising event on Thursday May 28, featuring performances by Gallery founders CCMC (featuring a special line-up of past and present members) and some hush-hush special guests (who will be announced in the weeks leading up to the event) as well as a special contemporary music record sale and silent auction. A Music Gallery Board member has kindly donated a personal collection of several hundred vinyl albums, including rare contemporary music recordings by the likes of Karlheinz Stockhausen and Krzysztof Penderecki. Come celebrate with us as we look forward to another 33+ years! Click here for more details about the fundraising party. more>

Spring Concerts Announced!
Posted on 2.2.09-------------------------------------------------------
Never mind what Wiarton Willie and Punxsutawney Phil have to say — spring is coming, and you can taste it in the air. And we're giving you even more of a taste for "hope" and "change" by announcing our spring concert line-up here at the Music Gallery! On March 21, New York's rising star of the contemporary piano, Marilyn Nonken, makes her Toronto debut. She'll be playing a program of brand-new works by composers from the Eastern and Western U.S., as well as Australia. Our classical new-music curator Gregory Oh describes her playing as "fearless." more>

"Hymn to the Universe" named one of Toronto's Best Concerts of 2008

The Music Gallery's presentation of "Hymn to the Universe" — the collaboration between the Sun Ra Arkestra and Coleman Lemieux & Compagnie that launched our X Avant Festival in October at the Palais Royale — was recently named one of the city's best concerts of the year by the critics at Eye Weekly. Read the glowing review here. (You have to scroll down a bit.)
